The Most Ignorant Image Of The Week

XV on XXL Magazine

This is what happens when multifaceted rappers have way too much time on their hands. Here’s the back story: In 2008, XXL made a magazine cover documenting the top ten rising starts in hip-hop, "The Top Ten 09 Freshmen", which included, Mickey Factz, Charles Hamilton, Asher Roth, Blu, Wale and more… Strangely XXL made the bold decision to put Ace Hood on the list instead of XV, and many hip-hop fans weren't too happy about it, including me. People began flooding XXL's blog site asking questions like "Where's XV?" "Where's Drake?". Most of the artists on the list are connected to each other by one or two degrees of separation and they were all major players in the internet rap movement except for Mr. Hood. Ace Hood is simply part of different scene; he can't be compared to "blog rappers" or anyone that's associated with the new hipster rap genre. I like Ace, but personally I'd rather see him compared to Plies, or Gucci Mane – major label, flashy southern rappers that are getting nation-wide commercial airplay.
What if Ace Hood wasn't on the cover? Who should have taken his place? XV? Drake? Skyzoo? Maybe Skyzoo didn't make the list because he's an "underground rapper" that is often ignored by mainstream media. Maybe Drake didn't make the list because he's a Canadian rapper that wasn't as popular in the US during most of 2008… So what about XV? Maybe XV wasn't on there because the entire "Top Ten Freshmen of 2009" cover was a well designed product of a joint lobbying effort from major label executives to promote their newly signed artists on a grand scale. Whatever the case, the controversy still looms. Now that it's 2009, XV decides that he's not going to continue to rant about XXL, and burn a potential bridge, he instead decides to send them a subliminal "F-You" through this beautifully crafted, ignorant image of the week.

The Real Singer behind the Silly Boy Demo, intended for Rihanna and Lady Gaga

Eva Simons

So here's the truth (credit me if you use this information) the new Silly Boy record that everyone thought was performed by Rihanna and Lady Gaga apparently came from the Netherlands. A source recently told me that it is connected to Walboomers Music, a Dutch music production and publishing company. It may have been created by Eva Simons a singer/songwriter for Walboomers and produced by Tearce Keaz, the same person that produced Tania Christopher's "Just Like You" and "Show Me" (which was featured in the movie Step Up 2).

So there you have it, the truth behind Silly Boy…

7/27 Update: So her management recently stole the line: "truth behind Silly Boy"… from my site and used it for her music campaign. (evasimons.com)

Then they had the bloody nerve to attack me for copyright infringement. What a sleazy thing to do…

Oh well.

Best Rap Collaboration of 2009?

XV and Henok

I'm calling this out early, even though the track is unfinished, and there's still 8 months before 2010, I honestly believe that when these two artists begin to establish themselves as two of the world's most popular rap acts, people will look back at this collaboration in the same light as the legendary 1997 Masta Ace & Eminem collaboration for Hellbound.
I got a chance to listen to this record about 3 months, ago over the phone; I still have no idea when the full remix will be done and released, but I know for a fact that it’s going to feature some pretty big names (you'll have to wait and see). This verse was recently placed on the new "Please, Hold" mixtape which is a gathering of some very very old XV songs such as Cooler Than Ya Boyfriend, along with some very new XV songs and remixes including this one right here. It's sort of a mixed bag for me since I already had 60% of those songs on my computer, but it's great for people that missed all the unreleased XV songs through the years and feel a need to catch up.

So pick that mixtape up, and enjoy the very short, yet memorable, verse from XV on this epic Swedish instrumental with one of the world's best rappers, Henok Achido.

News: California may never be the same!

Adam Tensta Shows

The idea of a show with Adam Tensta, U-N-I, Mickey Factz, Eboi, DJ Rooftop and Addeboy vs. Cliff is simply incredible and the fact that the show is going to be on Sunset Blvd is just phenomenal. I don't think anyone in L.A. realizes the type of presence that Adam Tensta & DJ Rooftop bring to the stage. It’s safe to say that the Swedish Hip-Hop Explosion is finally going to reach the eyes and ears of American audiences in one of the largest metropolitian areas in america. No one should pass up this show. You’ll regret it. Watching the youtube.com footage won't be the same as seeing it live and in person, trust me!

News: Adam Tensta says Lil Wayne needs to step his people game up!

Adam Tensta

Adam Tensta recently posted a new blog on myspace directed to, the #1 selling rapper, Lil Wayne that states:“I ain't the type to be hating on other artists, but I've gotta say: What the fuck is Weezy doing? I've been irritated about his arrogance for a while, and after seeing YouTube clips of him acting like he is living in a fantasy world where he can do what ever the fuck he wants, I've had enough. How can people be surprised that he got bottles thrown at him in London?
Wayne… all the dope tracks aside, you need to step your people game up. I don't even think that it needs to be said and I know you probably think that nothing can fuck your promotion game up, but mentioning "fuck the" and "mixtape DJs" in the same sentence is not a good move. Then again, maybe it is a good move if you want the same people you talked about to leak your shit before its supposed to leak. I talked to a couple of DJs about this and they said that they already got the leak last week. I think they will be happy to spread that shit over here in Scandinavia. Since you said "buy it or don't buy it, suck my dick" I guess that's ok.

I'm just saying man, it's so damn obvious. I need to work on some new mixtape shit and Lil Wayne needs to work on those people skills I mentioned earlier.
Nuff said.
Peace
Adam”

News: Triple Time & Myspace

Okay, Triple Time is adding a new dynamic …to draw even more attention to myspace so Tom can collect even more advertising revenue… (okay so I'm being sarcastic.)
But seriously, I'm going to start doing this thing called "myspace alert", because there's alot of randomness on myspace and a lot of undiscovered talent. (I'm only going to focus on the undiscovered talent.) For example, it'll say, Myspace alert – Musician: so&so
Then I'll write some commentary on the music, and convince you, the reader, to add this person and listen to their music, and maybe even purchase a few songs. Sounds complicated enough; let's give it a try…

News: Mitchell Brothers on Itunes UK

Mitchell Brothers – "Dressed For The Ocassion" in Stores in the UK

Mitchell Brothers

Here is an interesting quote from someone on Itunes:
Willlll Quoted: "People need to start supporting the UK scene more and opening their eyes to great artists like the mitchell brothers instead of the same old stuff from Americans like 50 cent who can only rap about money…."

This Album is quality and I too think it's a shame that American record execs aren't pushing this record out in the airwaves.

Albums like these should be released in more than just one Country.
